A Loving Home for the Holidays

"Home" has been on my mind a lot lately as I recently resettled in the place that our family called home for 13 years. As with any move, there have been major adjustments to deal with, but I know they're minor compared to the challenges of those coming to the Mission for meals, shelter and care.

I'm really glad that the Mission can be home for so many. For some, the stay is only a night or two but for others more extended - up to 18 months.

Right now, there are more than 200 men, women and children staying at our house each night...and the extreme winter weather hasn't even arrived yet.

What's most important is that there IS a place to go. It's sure not pleasant to consider the alternative. For many staying with us, a loving, caring home doesn't and never has existed and so we're grateful for the opportunity to treat our house guests with respect, dignity and Christian care. Just like we nurture our children to leave home someday for a place of their own, it's no different at the Mission. The time spent at our house opens the door to HOPE and sets changed lives on course for a promising future.

And so, in your families as loved ones and friends come home for the holidays, please remember those who have no where else to turn but the Mission. Thank you for remembering the hurting among us and for helping make the Mission "home" for so many all year. We trust you and your family have a blessed holiday season.
