No Off-Season for Mission Work

Well, it’s summer time and unfortunately, need knows no season.  By that I mean, we served over 450 meals today and nearly 200 men, women and children will be staying at our house tonight.  Not only that, we supply each guest with clothing and personal hygiene items.  Soap, deodorant and a place to shower are big blessings in the summer.

Unfortunately, the Mission work can be forgotten during the warm weather months.  I was recently reading an article in our association (AGRM) magazine titled “The Theology of Rescue”.  It reminded me that just because Jesus said that the poor would always be with us (in every season) doesn’t mean that God is indifferent toward the needy.  Quite the contrary, the Bible contains many Scripture passages that reveal a God who genuinely cares for the poor.  Here’s the statement that really got my attention, “If people are indifferent, they are out of touch with the heart of the Savior”.  That’s really something to think about.

To be honest, the increased services of meals and shelter along with the women’s and children’s crisis shelter that we reestablished last August has stretched us significantly.  The cash and in-kind gifts just are not covering the need.  Perhaps it’s time to give if you haven’t this year and if you have, maybe God is nudging you to share more…“He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done” (Prov. 19:17).  Thank you for your faithfulness to rescue, recover and restore!
