FAQ

Question: What is the average age of a homeless person?

Answer: According to the 2006 national survey of rescue missions, 45% are between the ages of 26 to 45. 20% are under 25 and 35% are over 46. 76% are male; 25% are female. 48% are Caucasian while only 38% are African American. 13% are composed of Native American, Hispanic and Asian.

Question: What does RRM do to help break the cycle of homelessness?

Answer: First, the Mission meets the physical needs of our guests by providing nutritious food, safe shelter, and clothing needs. Then, the REAL heart of the problem -- the need for Jesus Christ in their lives, is addressed. By sharing the love and grace that only Jesus can provide, RRM is able to help our guests realize what real HOPE is! Finally, clients are encouraged to join the year-long life recovery program where they will receive medical and dental care, become part of an educational program to help them develop marketable skills for employment.

Question: How many people are homeless in the Rockford area?

Answer: According to the Mayor's Task Force on Homelessness, there are an estimated 800 homeless people on any given day. In 2006 Rockford Rescue Mission served over 2,100 different individuals.

Question: Where can I drop off donations?

Answer: Food donations may be dropped off at the back door of HOPE PLACE, 715 W. State St, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 pm, Sundays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Clothing and Household Items are collected at our regional distribution center located at 1405 Kishwaukee. Donations are received Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Question: What other ways can I get involved?
