Rockford Rescue Mission, a non-profit Christian organization, has the following ministry employment opportunities available:

 

FACILITIES

Facilities Assistant (full-time)

The Facilities Assistant is responsible for maintaining safe, secure and clean facilities in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements. Completing preventive and on-going maintenance and repairs of Rockford Rescue Mission buildings, properties and equipment. Properties include four Rockford locations. The right candidate will have experience in building and property maintenance, HVAC, and construction.

Qualifications:  maintenance, 2 years (preferred).

 

PROGRAMS

Chaplain (part-time)

Provide pastoral and spiritual guidance and care for the Mission’s staff, guests and residents. Run weekly staff chapel. Provide Christian counseling and teaching whenever possible. Pray with staff. Support and encourage staff members with pastoral care (listening, praying, biblical counsel) as opportunities arise.

Qualifications: chaplain, 5 years (preferred).

 

 

FOOD SERVICE

Cook (full-time)

Prepare and cook meals for residents and guests of the Rescue Mission.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement high school or GED.
  • Must have a food sanitation certificate.
  • Must work required hours.
  • Must adhere to the policies of Rockford Rescue Mission.
  • Must engage in safe and healthy work practices, both on the premises and off-site facilities.
  • Must take an active part ensuring the safety, health and well-being of all of our employees, volunteers and Mission guests.
  • Batch cooking, 2 years (preferred)
  • Food handler (preferred)

 

 

Driver (part-time)

Safely and courteously pick up donations from designated donors and deliver to RRM. Determine whether a donation can be accepted and communicate to each donor. Assist in loading and loading of goods and donations. Operate Mission vehicles in a safe manner at all times, complying with the laws and policies.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class C driver’s license or above.
  • Clean Driving Record.

 

 

 

Food Service Supervisor (full-time)

Oversee and maintain the daily operations of the Rockford Rescue Mission Food Services, according to set policies, procedures and guidelines. Responsible for directing food and beverage ordering, intake and inventory. Ensure all food donations are accurately received and inventoried. Responsible for ensuring food is prepared and served in compliance with food safety and health department standards. Provide an excellent environment of hospitality through the delivery of outstanding customer service. Supervise and coordinate all food-related outreach preparations and special events involving the serving and/or distribution of food items (i.e., daily meals, holiday meals, staff meetings, Board meetings and special events). Plan menus and supervise the preparation of meals through cooks, staff, trainees and volunteers.

Qualifications:

  • Food service, 5 years (required)
  • Food service management, 3 years (preferred)
  • Driver’s license (preferred)
  • Food safety manager (preferred)

 

 

Stocker (part-time)

To manage incoming donations, store food properly and in a timely manner. In addition, the Stocker will keep the receiving area clean and organized.

Qualifications:

  • Good organizational skills.
  • Proficient in computer use, i.e., Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Demonstrate compassion towards the poor, needy and homeless.
  • Demonstrate character traits of integrity, trustworthiness, responsibility, etc.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.

 

 

MEN’S PROGRAMS

Men’s Crisis Evening/Weekend Coordinator (full-time, part-time)

Minister to the social, emotional, mental and physical needs of homeless individuals seeking services. Supervise and coordinate client activities. Oversee the safety and security of all Crisis Program guests, visitors and volunteers within the Rescue Mission facility. Maintain a non-threatening, drug- and alcohol-free environment. Utilize conflict resolution amid guest or resident disputes. Enforce program principles and procedures in a spirit of compassion and respect. Document any and all corrective actions.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be compassionate toward the poor, needy and homeless.
  • Must display respect, gentleness and accountability when interacting with Crisis Program guests and Recovery Program residents.
  • Must be teachable and function as a team player; willing to resolve any conflicts with others (staff, volunteers, etc.) in the appropriate and acceptable fashion as expected at RRM. Must engage in safe and healthy work practices, both on the premises and off-site facilities.
  • Must take an active part in ensuring the safety, health and well-being of all of our employees, volunteers and Mission guests.

 

 

Men’s Life Recovery Evening/Weekend Coordinator (part-time)

Minister to the social, emotional, mental and physical needs of individuals enrolled in the Men’s Life Recovery Program. Supervise and coordinate resident activities. Maintain a non-threatening, drug- and alcohol-free environment. Ensure program principles and procedures are met with a spirit of compassion and respect.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirement high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be compassionate toward the poor, needy and homeless.
  • Must display respect, gentleness and accountability when interacting with Crisis Program guests and Recovery Program residents.
  • Must be teachable and function as a team player; willing to resolve any conflicts with others (staff, volunteers, etc.) in the appropriate and acceptable fashion as expected at RRM. Must engage in safe and healthy work practices, both on the premises and off-site facilities.
  • Must take an active part in ensuring the safety, health and well-being of all of our employees, volunteers and Mission guests.
  • Computer skills: 1 year (preferred)

 

 

NETTIE’S MERCANTILE

Baker (part-time)

Create pastries, cookies and desserts for Nettie’s Mercantile and Cafe on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 6 to 9 a.m. Clean and prep all baking materials for the specific job. Assemble all dry and wet goods for production. Utilize or create recipes. Work alone or with trainees to execute recipes. Utilize industrial equipment to facilitate efficient production. Handle all hot or dangerous items with care. Ensure all baked goods are stored and packaged properly. Adorn all health, sanitation and safety clothing.

Qualifications:

  • Bakery, 3 years (required)
  • Education: High school or equivalent (preferred)
  • License: Driver’s License (preferred)

 

 

Retail Associate and Barista (part-time)

Provide excellent customer service for our business. Candidates with strong communication skills who can make customers feel welcome in our store will stand out. You will help identify client needs, present and answer questions about our products and services and recommend solutions. Ultimately, you will ensure that customers leave our store satisfied.

Qualifications:

  • Retail sales/customer service, 1 year (preferred)
  • Customer service, 1 year (preferred)
  • Driver’s license (preferred)

 

 

PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

Performing Arts Coordinator (part-time)

Coordinate the activities in the Performing Arts Center to enhance the spirit of worship throughout the Mission’s culture. Facilitate weekly music class for residents, emphasizing the importance of worship and providing exposure to various instruments and styles of music. Facilitate weekly individual music lessons for residents, enabling them to explore music as a means for worship, healing and expression. Prepare residents to perform group musical selections for annual Restoration Celebrations and other events as requested. Incorporate the use of the recording studio as a means of instilling confidence in the residents and for the production of promotional materials. Build relationships with individuals in the arts and church communities as a means of enlisting volunteer instructors to teach piano, voice, guitar, drums, dance, etc. Foster partnerships with Rockford Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center and other organizations within the arts community to provide quarterly music outings for residents. Oversee the upkeep of all instruments and equipment in the Performing Arts Center and communicate needs to Chief Program Officer.

THRIFT STORE

Driver (full-time)

Responsibilities include driving the Rockford Rescue Mission truck for the pickup and delivery of donated items to the Thrift Store. Oversee and process donations received through the delivery service. Position also requires loading and unloading of furniture, clothing, household goods and other donated items, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent driving record, 4 years (preferred)
  • Driving a box or panel truck, 3 years (preferred)
  • Driver’s license (required)
  • Availability to work Saturdays (preferred)

 

 

WOMEN’S PROGRAMS

Women’s Crisis Evening/Weekend Coordinator (full-time)

Assist with the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of homeless individuals seeking emergency shelter at Rockford Rescue Mission. Implement program policies and procedures. Provide assistance, encouragement, motivation and direction to all Crisis guests. Monitor the safety and security of Crisis guests, visitors and volunteers. The exemplary candidate will have compassion for the needy and homeless population.

Qualifications :

  • Minimum requirement high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Must manifest Christian character traits of integrity, trustworthiness, responsibility, etc.
  • Must display respect, gentleness and accountability when interacting with the crisis guests.
  • Must be teachable and function as a team player, willing to resolve conflicts with others in an appropriate and acceptable manner.
  • Must use good judgment.
  • Must be punctual.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must engage in safe and healthy work practices, both on the premises and off-site facilities. Must take an active part ensuring the safety, health and well-being of all of our employees, volunteers and Mission guests.

Women’s Life Recovery Resident Advocate (part-time)

Act as case manager for all guests. Minister to the spiritual, social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of homeless individuals seeking emergency shelter at Rockford Rescue Mission. Implement program policies and procedures. Provide assistance, encouragement, motivation and direction to all Crisis guests. Monitor safety and security of Crisis guests, visitors and volunteers. Maintain a non-threatening, drug- and alcohol-free environment. Be actively involved in the character growth and development of the women in the Crisis Program. Assist in the development of social and spiritual stability in the community.

Qualifications:

  • A four-year bachelor’s degree, CADC certified, and two years’ experience or an equivalent amount of knowledge and experience in addiction recovery and Christian discipleship (required).
  • Have a teachable spirit and be committed to team participation.
  • Must be able to function well under pressure, maintaining a Christlike attitude of kindness, compassion and respect toward others.
  • Must engage in safe and healthy work practices, both on the premises and off-site facilities. Must take an active part ensuring the safety, health and well-being of all of our employees, volunteers and Mission guests.

 

 

Women’s Life Recovery Lead Coordinator (full-time)

Assist with the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of women seeking addictions recovery. Implement program policies and procedures. Provide assistance, encouragement, motivation and direction to all residents. Monitor the safety and security of residents, visitors and volunteers. Maintain daily operations to ensure a non-threatening, drug- and alcohol-free, restorative environment for our residents. Be actively involved in making the program effective and accountable. Supervise orientation procedures. Assist the Director as needed. Coordinate resources with other community agencies.

 

Qualifications:

  • A four-year degree in Human Services-related field or the equivalent work experience preferred. High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must have strong leadership qualities and demonstrate character traits of integrity, trustworthiness, responsibility, etc.
  • Display respect, gentleness, and accountability when interacting with the Women’s Life Recovery Program residents.

 

 

Aftercare Coach (part-time)

Continue to develop the Aftercare Program; develop an Alumni Association to provide ongoing support to current residents and to promote RRM in the community. Principal duties/responsibilitiesCreate, implement and manage an effective Aftercare Program for residential and non-residential Stage 4 participants. Travel to Aftercare Program residents’ homes, workplaces, churches, etc. Indoor office environment at RRM, requiring sitting at a desk and doing computer work. May involve some lifting and moving of equipment, boxes, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to follow the “Four Life-Changing Practices” of the recovery program.
  • Active participation in a local Christian fellowship/church.
  • A four-year degree in a human services-related field is preferred (or the equivalent work experience).
  • Computer knowledge so as to easily utilize our system to produce reports and to learn to use the Mission’s case management system.
  • Must be able to function well under pressure, maintain a Christlike attitude of kindness, compassion and respect toward others.
  • Must engage in safe and healthy work practices, both on the premises and offsite facilities. Must take an active part in ensuring the safety, health and well-being of all our employees, volunteers and Mission guests.
